We are deeply saddened to share the passing of Tommie Stewart Burton, 82, beloved husband of Elsie (Jane) Ashcraft Burton of Nicholasville, who left us on Wednesday, November 19, 2025. Tommie was born in Jessamine County on January 28, 1943, to the late Wesley Carter and Loretta Cobb Burton. Throughout his life, Tommie exemplified humility, devotion, and a steadfast commitment to family, faith, and community.Tommie’s legacy is reflected in his dedicated service as a faithful Elder of Bethel Christian Church and as a proud veteran of the United States Army. A lifelong farmer, Tommie cultivated the land with unwavering diligence, raising his first tobacco crop at just 14 years old and never missed a season for over 50 years. Tommie extended his service into the Jessamine County community where he served more than 20 years as Chairman of the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service (ASCS), was past President of the Jessamine County Saddle Club, and was an active member of the Jessamine County Cattle Club. His humble and caring spirit touched many, and Tommie will be deeply missed by all who knew him.Tommie is survived by his loving wife Jane; a son, Steven Thomas (Angela) Burton; stepson, Bobby (Missy) Watts; stepdaughter, Amy (Doug) Boone; sisters, Sue Carol Reed and Marsha Wooton; grandchildren, Justice Burton, Taylor (Ben) Darpel, Brooke (Tom Heppler) Watts, Hayden Watts, Mitchell Boone, and Meg Boone; and great-granddaughter Lydia Jane Darpel. Tommie's memory will remain forever cherished in their hearts, as well as all his family, friends, and those whose lives he enriched.A service to honor Tommie’s life will take place at 11:00 AM, Saturday at Betts & West Funeral Home, with Bro. Bill Bales and Roy Lauder officiating. Burial will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery. Bearers include Mike Hunter, Harry Ashcraft, John Cobb, Evan Hayden, Derrick Mays, Jeff Riester, Jimmy Peel, and Mitch Dunn. Honorary bearers are Bethel Christian Church Board Members, Barbara and Louie Olivie, Bill Jacobs, Virgil Thomas (Poochie) Burton, Dink Hager, Brian Rhineheimer, and Doug Downing. Visitation is scheduled for Friday from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the funeral home.The family and members of Bethel Christian Church invite and welcome everyone to a bereavement dinner immediately following burial services Saturday.
