Sondra Kay Hart

Sondra Hart was born on July 30, 1939, to Guy and Dean Hacker. Her father, Guy, was a pediatrician in Highland Park, Texas, and her mother, Dean, was a nurse. Sondra cherished her childhood in Highland Park. Some of her favorite memories included watching SMU football games wrapped in red-and-blue plaid wool blankets and occasionally accompanying her father on house calls. She was also a part of a girls' club called Blubirds that brought her lifelong friendships. After graduating from high school, Sondra attended the University of Texas, where she earned a degree in Social Work. During one summer break, she and a friend drove her pink convertible from Texas to Estes Park, Colorado, to work in the gift shop at the YMCA of the Rockies. This adventure remained one of her favorite memories throughout her life. Following college, Sondra accepted a position as a social worker in Amarillo, Texas. It was there that she met the love of her life, Jerry Hart. Jerry was the new director at her workplace, and although several of the women in the office had their eye on him, it was Sondra who ultimately won his heart. Jerry and Sondra made their home in Dallas, Texas, where they raised their three children: Dan, Mike, and Shauna. They enjoyed many wonderful friendships in their Lake Highlands neighborhood. It was also there that their granddaughter, Marissa, was born, bringing them endless joy and keeping them happily occupied as devoted grandparents. Sondra had a deep appreciation for God's creation, especially the mountains. One of her favorite career pursuits was traveling to New Mexico to purchase Native American jewelry directly from local artisans and selling it at craft shows. She loved both the beauty of the jewelry and the relationships she built along the way. Later, Jerry and Sondra, along with Shauna and Marissa, moved to Peachtree City, Georgia. Although she spent her later years in Georgia and her final two years in Kentucky, Sondra always proudly considered herself a Texan. Sondra was a strong woman who carried herself with grace and dignity. She loved her children deeply and treasured time spent with family. She will be dearly missed by her children, Dan, Mike (Amy), and Shauna; her grandchildren, James (Catherine), Lynsey (Ben), Jillian, Marissa, and Joseph; and her great-grandchildren, Ellie, Campbell, and Maisie. The family is especially grateful for the compassionate care and love shown to Sondra by the staff of The Willows at Fritz Farm and Morning Pointe of Lexington on Ruccio Way. In lieu of flowers, plant some seeds, feed the birds, and take time to enjoy the beauty of nature and the people around you. We believe that would have made Sondra smile.
