Sarah Moore Smith

Sarah Moore Smith of Jessamine County , widow of Charles Leland Smith , passed away on July 9. 2017. Sarah was born on Feb.17 , 1925 in Lexington Kentucky to parents James McGrath ( Mac ) Moore and Sarah Herring ( Sank ) Moore . She was a graduate of Henry Clay High School of Lexington , Ky. Sarah was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church of Lexington. She enjoyed farm life and managed the operation of the family farm , boarding horses and raising Dexter Beef cattle. She deeply loved animals and birds and had a soft heart for dogs and cats. Sarah is survived by two sons , Mark McTyre Smith ( wife Peggy ) , Leland Steele Smith , granddaughter Jessica Dawn Smith and a cousin , Susan Braden. She was preceded in death by a grandson , Matthew Lucas Smith and a daughter-in-law , Deborah Cecil Smith. Pall bearers are Raymond Waits, Landy Dale , David Evans , Tim Troxel , Tom Bower and Marcus Czako . Service will be conducted 1:30 PM Wednesday at Betts & West Funeral Home with the Rev. Hank Ellington officiating. Burial will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11:00 AM until time of service Wednesday. In lieu of flowers , donations to the Jessamine County Humane Society are appreciated.
