Ronald G. Welling, age 91, of Wilmore, KY passed on to heaven on Wednesday, September 10, 2025. He was born May 24, 1934 in Parkersburg, WV a son of the late Homer and Mabel Welling. Ron was preceded in death by one sister and four brothers; Juanita, Cecil, his twin brother Donald and Okey.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Nadara Anne Rodeheaver Welling, his daughter Anne Kline (husband Duane); grandchildren Aaron Kline (wife Kari) and Hannah Dell’Acqua (husband Reno) and great-grandchildren Walker James and Leonardo McKay Dell’Acqua along with Luna Mabel Kline.
Ron was a member of Wilmore Free Methodist Church and often attended Faith Evangelical Free Church in Mt. Lake Park, MD. From his earliest adult years he was active in the administration of each church he attended; particularly trustees and finances.
He engaged with mission work with particular focus and delight. Ron loved serving. He was able to be a member of seven mission trips over his lifetime. His travels took him to communities in Mexico, Sri Lanka, the Bahamas, Paraguay and Eastern KY. Ron especially had a “heart” for the ministries of Kithu Sevana in Sri Lanka. His travels took him there a total of three times.
Ron enjoyed carpentry including building his own home and maintaining it. He was known among family and friends as a “jack of all trades.” Also, he enjoyed building furniture from cherry wood he harvested on his property in Deer Park, MD.
Ron earned mathematics degrees from Asbury College, Kansas State University and a doctorate from Indiana University. Dr. Welling’s forty year teaching career included positions at Washburn University (Topeka, KS), Olivet Nazarene University (IL) and for 32 years Asbury University. He retired in the year 2000. Mathematics was his love, but more significantly he would say was the privilege he had to work with college students and form relationships that lasted years.
Friends will be received for visitation at the Wilmore Free Methodist Church from 1:00 to 2:30pm on Saturday, September 13th. The funeral service will begin at 2:30pm with Dr. Darryl Diddle officiating. Pall bearers are Duane Kline, Aaron Kline, Reno Dell’Acqua, Dave Coulliette, Vic Hamilton and Stan Wiggam. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to support Asbury University Student Scholarships. [https://www.asbury.edu/give/]
