Nelson Kelly Maynard

Nelson Kelly Maynard, 81, passed away peacefully at home in Versailles, KY, on Tuesday, July 1st, 2025. He was born November 25, 1943, at the old Pikeville Methodist Hospital in Pikeville, KY.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edith and Estil Maynard of Pike County, KY, his sister Linda Lou Brooks of Pikeville, and his sister-in-law Priscilla Maynard of Morrisburg, TN. He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Teresa McDougal Maynard, of Versailles, KY, brother Paul Hayes Maynard of Morrisburg, TN, sons Nelson Kelly Maynard II and Matthew Owen Maynard (Karine), both of Lawrenceburg, KY, daughter Nicole Gary of Versailles, KY, nephew Scot Maynard (Olivia Helton) of Lexington, KY and nieces Stephanie Dawn Maynard of Kingsport, TN, and Leslie Damron (Teddy) of Versailles, KY. Grandchildren and step-grandchildren include Austin and Isabella Gary of Versailles, KY, Jakob Wilson of Covington, KY, Ford (Kaitlyn) Hawkinson of Hanahan, SC, and Elaine (Zach) DeMoulin of Toledo, OH.

He was a 1961 graduate of Johns Creek High School in Pike County and studied art at the University of Pikeville (then Pikeville College). He was a retired construction engineer and contractor for AT&T, starting out as a field line technician for South Central Bell (later Bellsouth) circa 1965, working out of facilities in Pikeville, KY, Stone, KY, and Hendersonville, NC. He was an honorably discharged veteran of the 83rd Division, U.S.Army Reserve, completing his service at the rank of Staff Sergeant (E-6) Cremation service is being provided by Betts & West Funeral Home of Nicholasville, KY, with a family celebration of life to be held at a later date In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial gifts may be made to Bluegrass Care Navigators of Hazard or Lexington, KY.
