Louis Edwin Spaeth was called home on Saturday, May 3, 2025, at the VA Medical Center in Lexington, Kentucky, at the age of 76. Born in Blytheville, Arkansas, on March 28, 1949, to Peggy Griffin Spaeth and the late Edwin Booth Spaeth II. Louis proudly served his country in the Navy during the Vietnam War and for many years he was a familiar figure in Jackson, Tennessee as a self-employed roofing contractor. Louis possessed a remarkable gift for connection, effortlessly making everyone he encountered feel like a lifelong friend. His warm spirit and strong sense of community continue to thrive in his children and grandchildren.
He is lovingly remembered by his four children, Crystal Hope Ransom (Patrick), Louis Robert Spaeth (Amanda), Timothy Samuel Spaeth and their mother Nancy Whaley, and Rebecca Lynne Spaeth and her mother Nancy Ray, as well as his six cherished grandchildren, Luke Ransom, Ian Ransom, Addison Spaeth, Landon Spaeth, Camilla Ransom, and Mabel Ransom. Louis is also survived by his mother, Peggy Griffin Spaeth, his brother, Edwin Spaeth III (Denise), and his two sisters, Sharon Murphy (Mike) and Marta Mobbs.
A graveside service with Military Honors will be held at 12:30 PM on Monday, May 12, 2025, at Camp Nelson National Cemetery (procession leaves Betts & West Funeral Home at 12 noon). Following the burial, a celebration of Louis's life will take place at Macedonia Christian Church at 4:00 PM on the same day. Your presence is welcome at both events, and if you feel moved to bring flowers or a cherished food dish to share at the Macedonia gathering, please do.
