James Darrell Vice

James Darrell Vice, 80, of Harrodsburg, Kentucky, passed away peacefully at his home on July 15th, surrounded by his loving family.

Born on December 10, 1945, in Mount Sterling, Kentucky, James lived a life defined by love, kindness, and unwavering devotion to his family. His life was a testament to perseverance. Despite a lifetime of health challenges, his resilience never wavered. He met each challenge with quiet courage and a fighting spirit right up until his final days.

James was a graduate of Claude V. Courter High School, Class of 1966. He later retired from Kentucky American Water Company after a lifelong career as a draftsman. He was known for his strong work ethic, dependability, and dedication throughout his career.

James had a deep appreciation for God’s creation and found peace in the outdoors. He spent countless hours observing wildlife, capturing the beauty of nature through his photography. He also loved fishing and in his eyes, there was never a bad day spent on the lake. However, his greatest joy came from spending time with those he loved. Whether sharing stories with his grandchildren, enjoying family gatherings, or simply being present, he treasured every moment with his family. He was an incredible father and the absolute best grandfather.

He is survived by his son, Robert Vice, and his children, Nathaniel (Deelaney) Vice, Katelyn Coventry, and Logan Vice; his loving daughter, Rhonda Cunningham (Chase), and their children, Aviana and Ainslee Cunningham; as well as three great-grandchildren with a fourth on the way.

He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Minnie Bell and Clifton Vice, as well as seven brothers and two sisters.

While his family grieves his passing, they find comfort in knowing he is at peace. His legacy of kindness, generosity, quiet strength, and unconditional love will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Betts and West Funeral Home in Nicholasville, KY on Friday, July 31st. Visitation will be held at 11:00. A memorial service will follow at 12:00.
