Herman Duane Johnson

Herman Duane Johnson was born in Big Fork, MN on January 24, 1934, one of seven children born to Herman P. and Mable K. Johnson. He died of natural causes on August 19, 2026 at the V.A. Hospital in Lexington, KY. A life-long resident of Longview, WA, due to poor health he and his wife Dorothy spent their final years with daughter and son-in-law Lorrie and Stephen Liversedge in Wilmore, KY.

Herman was a strong student and noted boxer. After graduating from R.A. Long High School, he was drafted into the Army, serving for two years in Korea. Upon his discharge he married Dorothy Van Dinter of Kelso, WA, and set to work at Weyerhaeuser Company. A few years later he studied to become a journeyman electrician, and he worked in that profession at Weyerhaeuser until his retirement at age 62.

Herman and Dorothy raised four children and in time were blessed with twelve grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren. His greatest joys were the home and family they built together. He loved the outdoors, especially fishing and camping, and was a skilled woodworker, mechanic, and handyman. He was known as a kind and humble man.

Dorothy passed away in July 2025 and Herman never got used to her absence at the table or in the chair next to him. A joint memorial service is planned for October in Longview, WA.
