GORDON F. HARRIS (72) of New Milford, NJ, passed away January 11th, 2023 from complications due to cancer.

Mr. Harris graduated CUM LAUDE from Fairleigh-Dickinson University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in History. He also did post-graduate work at Monmouth College – both of which are in New Jersey where he was raised.

Gordon was a career Navy man with more than 22 years of service. He retired in January of 2007 as a data-processing technician Class “A”. However he was also a nuclear warhead maintenance technician for more than 8 years while enlisted. He received numerous awards among which were Navy unit commendations, meritorious unit commendations, Battle “E” ribbons, National Defense Service medals, sea service deployment ribbons, Navy marksman pistol and rifle ribbons as well as other service and commendation awards. He served on numerous naval vessels of distinction and even had the honor of guarding the Vice President of the United States, VP Albert Gore during the Clinton/Gore presidency .

Mr. Harris, upon retirement, spent six years caring for his aging Mother until her death. He then moved to Kentucky due to his own health battles and stayed with his sister, Carol A. Barto on and off for the nearly 7 years he was here, until he finally succumbed to cancer. He put up a valiant fight with his sister always by his side.

He will be interred at Camp Nelson National Cemetery with full military honors, at 1:30 PM, January 30th, 2023. His dedication to the Navy and his country will always be remembered and honored by his closest family, who attended him to his final rest. He was a devoted son to his parents, a veteran of distinction and a fierce friend.
