Glenn Thomas Smith

Feb 21, 1947 — Aug 1, 2026

Nicholasville

Glenn Thomas Smith Sr., “Tom,” passed away at his home on Saturday, August 1st, 2026.

Through his love, generosity, and co-hosting of innumerable Sunday dinners, Tom made it well-known that, in life, family should be held in high esteem.

Born February 21st, 1947, to the late Shirley Smith Sr. and Bula Allen Smith, Tom grew up as the middle brother of five siblings and was a proud, lifelong Jessamine Countian. He married his beloved wife in 1966, and together they shared 60 years of faithful love, raising three cherished sons and later welcoming daughters-in-law, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. For over 45 years, Tom served as supervisor of Jessamine County Water District 1 and the Jessamine-South Elkhorn Water District. Outside of his work, Tom was a proud farmer and Guernsey Cattle Breeder. He exhibited dairy cattle at the Kentucky State Fair for over 70 years. In that time, he shared his love for agriculture and dairy cattle with his sons and grandchildren and made many valued friends across the state. Tom was, however, most proud of his family. He attended countless ball games; track, cross-country, and gymnastics meets; musicals and concerts; and anything else that involved those who called him, “Poppy.” Through his love, generosity, and co-hosting of innumerable Sunday dinners, Tom made it well-known that, in life, family should be held in high esteem.

Left cherishing Tom’s memory are his wife, Lynda, and sons Glenn “Charlie” (Sue Lou) Smith; Steven (Cheryl) Smith, and Michael (Heather) Smith. He will be fondly remembered by his grandchildren: Emily Smith, Amy Kate (Hayden) Bright, Hunter Smith, Alex Smith, Tyler Smith, Steven (Lauren) Brooks, Sara (Hunter) Rupard, and Lane (Katy) Brooks; and great-grandchildren: Cooper, Moss, and Sutton Brooks; Amelia and William Rupard; and Kamryn and Addison Brooks. Tom is also survived by his loving siblings Jerrie Smith Drake, Shirley Smith, Jr., George (Kathy) Smith, and Janice Smith Hickerson, as well as many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

The family would like to express their gratitude and appreciation for the medical personnel who took great care of Tom: Dr. Barry Schumer and his amazing staff, Joy and Melissa; the medical team from Commonwealth Home Health; and Dr. Mohammed Athar.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 4th, 2026, from 4:00-8:00 pm and on Wednesday, August 5th, 2026, from 9:30-11:00am.
