Evelyn Marion Peel passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, at the age of 93.
While some may have called her Mrs. Peel or Evelyn, those who loved her only knew her as Mamaw. Evelyn was a devoted Christian and proud member of Crosswoods Baptist Church. She loved all things pink, hymns at church, and flowers. Her favorite food was fried chicken, and anyone would be hard-pressed to find something more delicious than her famous “Mamaw Biscuits.” However, there was nothing she loved on this earth more than her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 50 years, A.J. Peel, her parents, Walter and Nora Rader Fields, 12 of her brothers and sisters, and her great-granddaughter McKenlee (McConathy) Rogers. She is survived by her younger sister, Margaret McCord, her daughters Brenda Abbott (Bob) and Lisa McConathy (Terry), her grandchildren Jason Gill (Brooke), Whitney Danhauer (Michael), Emilee Back (Matt), and Hailee Allen (Jeremy). Evelyn was lucky enough to enjoy 11 great-grandchildren who she cherished – Jack and Carter Gill, Evie Rose Danhauer, Ashlyn, Griffin, Logan, Eden, Declan Back, and Drew, Grier, and Finn Allen.
There’s no way to fill the Mamaw-shaped hole in all of our hearts, but we take comfort knowing that she’s been reunited with Poppie while holding sweet baby McKenlee, and that one day we’ll be able to see her again.
Family and friends are invited to attend the visitation on Tuesday, February 10, at 4:00 p.m., followed by a funeral service on Wednesday, February 11, at 11:00 a.m., at Betts & West Funeral Home.
Flowers are welcome as an expression of love and remembrance. This obituary was lovingly submitted by her family. Betts & West Funeral Home is honored to serve the Peel family in their time of need.
