Curtis Reese Caldwell

May 1, 1936 — December 31, 2025

Wilmore

Curtis Reese Caldwell, age 89, passed away on Wednesday, December 31, 2025, at his home in Wilmore, Kentucky. He was born on May 1, 1936, in Charleston, West Virginia, to the late Roy and Lillian Caldwell as the fourth of five children. After graduation from high school, he began work in the mail room of the Dupont plant in Belle WV. He began attending the young adult group at the Baptist Temple in Charleston, where he met Patricia Jane Davis Caldwell to whom he was married for 63 years.

Curt worked his way up from the mail room through a number of positions, including electrician, Safety Officer, Master Electrician, and training engineers in field procedures to Radiation Specialist for the plant. During this time, he also served his country as a medic in the U.S. Army National Guard. During his deployment to active duty in Washington D.C. during the Berlin Crisis, he proposed to Pat. They went on together to have two daughters and four grandchildren.

During young adulthood, Curt honed his sense of humor and the use of insults as terms of endearment. He would talk to anybody, as he never met a stranger.

Curt lived a life of service. He was a member of Wilmore Free Methodist Church and a former member of and active participant in Aldersgate United Methodist Church in Sissonville, West Virginia. He served with the Lions Club, Boy Scouts, and PTA; and was a Community Emergency Response Coordinator, organizing flood response in the Sissonville area. In recent years he began and chaired the Veterans Committee at Wesley Village.

In addition to his wife, Pat, Curt is survived by two daughters, Rita Greer of Lexington and Becky Rose (David) of Owego, New York; and four grandchildren, Kimberly Hoffman (Paul), Christina Rose, Stephanie Graham (Brian), and Jonathan Greer. He is also survived by many other close family members and friends whom he considered family. He was preceded in death by son-in-law, David E. Greer; and his siblings, Louis Caldwell, Patsy Lucas, Charles Caldwell, and Nancy Blankenship. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, on Monday, January 12, 2026, at the Wilmore Free Methodist Church with Pastor Dwight Winter officiating. The burial will follow at Camp Nelson National Cemetery.

The visitation will be held from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Sunday, January 11, 2026, at Betts & West Funeral Home. Betts & West Funeral Home is honored to serve Curtis and the Caldwell family during their time of need.
