Willis Martin Peterson

Willis Martin Peterson, 75, husband of Dorene Willis Peterson, died at his home January 28, 2008. He was born June 3, 1932 in Mower County, MN to the late Henry Martin and Clara Jensen Peterson. Willis graduated from Austin High School, Austin, MN in 1950 and attended St. Olaf Lutheran Church. He was married to his wife Dorene of Nicholasville, on May 27, 1962. He was retired from the U.S. Army in 1975. During his tenure in the service he served overseas tours in France, Germany, Vietnam, Korea and Okinawa. After his retirement from the military he worked for the University of Kentucky. Additional survivors are a son Gregory Willis Peterson and his wife Carrie of Nicholasville, a daughter Jill Dorene Peterson of Lexington; two grandchildren, Noah Gregory Peterson and Raegan Elizabeth Peterson of Nicholasville; a sister and brother in law, Charlene and Terry Jenson of Clarks Grove, MN; a brother in law, Robert Bahl of Austin, MN; and several nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Jeanette Bahl, and a step-father, Elmer Schurrer. Funeral services will be 1:30 PM, Friday at Betts & West Funeral Home, with Rev. Sean Shroll officiating and burial to follow in Camp Nelson National Cemetery. Bearers will be Mark Royse, David Royse, Richard Williams, Jonathan Williams, Randy Jenson, and Dean Van Hall. Honorary bearers will be Jeffery McReynolds, Clint and Lori Wiseman, Jim Hurst, Mitch Coyle, Denton Willis, Fred McGlinchy and Ken Griffie.
