William Jasper Davis

William Jasper (Jap) Davis, 96, of 4th Street in Nicholasville, passed away Friday evening, February 4, 2011, at Pine Meadows Healthcare. Jap, as he was widely and affectionately known by most everyone, had many friends throughout his long and healthy life. Jap was a native of Jessamine County living most of his life on 4th Street in Nicholasville. He was the son of the late Charles Jasper Davis and Jennie E. Dedman Davis. He was retired from the state highway transportation department, and served in World War II, serving in the Signal Corp. division, and was a member of the Nicholasville Christian Church. He is survived by his beloved sister, Geneva Elizabeth Alverson, and nieces Mary Elizabeth Grant, Jennifer Welch Hoffman, Carolyn Sue Davis Parker and Linda Davis, and many great nieces and nephews. He also is survived by nephews, Rick and Phil Davis, and a very special friend, Joe Walker. Jap was preceded in death by three brothers, Henry Rice, John Phillip and Riley Woodrow Davis. Everyone that knew Jap loved him, and as stated by Sister Elizabeth, 'he was the most wonderful person I ever knew'. Jap enjoyed life and had many hobbies that included raising big gardens that produced some of the best tomatoes and vegetables in town. He would always give most everything he raised away to friends and neighbors for their enjoyment. He enjoyed playing golf and raising those big gardens, right up until he was 94 years old, when his health began to fail. His sister Elizabeth says she wished everyone could be like her brother and that he was so good to her, and she loved him so much. Jap will be missed by all. The family would like to thank Pine Meadows Healthcare, and Hospice of the Bluegrass. Services will be 1:30 p.m. Friday, February 11, 2011, at Betts & West Funeral Home with Rev. Jeff Mandrell presiding. Burial will follow @ Camp Nelson National Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 5:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. Bearers will be Rick, Phil and Tyler Davis, Jacob and Joe Walker, Lemon Lee, Kevin Corman and Allen (Doodle) Peel.
