William G. Walter Sr.

William G. Walter Sr., 80, died peacefully in his home in Garrard County, Kentucky, on November 25, 2017. Bill was born in Lexington, Kentucky, to the late Lucille and Taylor Walter. Bill served in the Air Force for 20 years in which he and Mrs. Walter experienced many adventures together one of which was life in Alaska. He retired from the Air Force in 1975. He then worked for the post office for twenty-two years, retiring in 1999. Bill was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Carolyn Walter, four children, William G. “Bill” Walter Jr. (Brenda), Phillip A. Walter, Karen (Rex Puckett), and Nathan Walter (Kim); fourteen grandchildren, Ashley Walter, Jessica (Todd Yoder), Nicole Walter, Leslie (Thomas Hulsey), Phillip Walter (Angel), Elizabeth Walter, Sheena Puckett, Tyler Puckett (Hannah), Samantha Puckett, Andrea (Storm Forrester), Erica Puckett, Brittany Walter, Madlynn McDonald, and Sydney McDonald, and ten great-grandchildren, two brothers Richard (Joyce) Walter. and James (Vela) Walter. He was also preceded in death by brother, Jerry Wayne Walter. Services will be 9:30 AM Thursday at Betts & West Funeral Home with Bro. Cole Caven and Bro. Jerry Browning officiating. Burial will follow at Camp Nelson with full military honors. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5:00 until 8:00 PM at the funeral home. Grandchildren will serve as bearers. The family wishes to express their gratitude to Kentucky One Health for their diligent care of Bill over the last two years and to Heritage Hospice for their care and support in his final days.
