Ruth Eileen Matthews, 74, widow of William Marx Matthews, of Willow Drive, died Thursday, December 9, 2010 at St. Joseph Hospice Unit in Lexington, KY. She was born February 4, 1936 in Martins Ferry OH, daughter of the late Clyde H. and Virginia Tanley Tobin. She was a retired registered nurse for St. Joseph Hospital and a graduate of Martins Ferry High School. Eileen attended the Nicholasville Christian Church where she was president of CFW for two terms and was a member of Circle Six and the Morning Circle. She was a member and teacher of the Joy Class, also served as one of the first female elders of the church. She served on the Board of Kentucky Church Women United and on the governing body of the Kentucky Christian Women-s Fellowship, Disciples of Christ. She was active in Church Women United of Jessamine County, was active in civic affairs and was a founding member of Hospice of Jessamine County. Survivors include a son and his wife, Michael John and Donna Jean Matthews, a daughter, Kathryn Sue Matthews, both of Nicholasville, two wonderful grandchildren, Hannah Michelle Matthews and William Marx Matthews II, a brother, Fred Tobin of Collinsville, OK, a sister, Sharon Peterson of Cortland, OH, a sister in law, Ann Tobin of St. Clairsville, OH. She was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Madison Matthews, a brother, Clyde Thomas Tobin of St. Clairsville, OH and a sister in law, Alice Tobin of Collinsville, OK. Services will be 1:00pm Monday at Betts & West Funeral Home with Rev. Jeff Mandrell officiating. Burial will follow in the Maple Grove Cemetery. Friends will be received from Noon-1:00pm Monday.
