Ruth Canter Nickell

June 11, 1936 — March 25, 2008

Ruth Canter Nickell, 71, loving and devoted wife of John Knox Nickell for 53 years, of Sulphur Well Road, died at her home Tuesday, March 25, 2008 after a short illness. She was born June 11, 1936 in Jessamine County, daughter of the late Lee and Edith Beulah Green Canter. She was a homemaker and member of the Mt. Beulah United Methodist Church where she served as treasurer for several years, the Women-s Democratic Party, Jessamine County Beef Cattle Association and the Nicholasville Chapter of Eastern Star #223. Additional survivors include three daughters and their husbands, Donna Adeline Nickell Miller and her husband Bobby Dexter of Jessamine Co.; June Elaine Nickell Richey and her husband Jerry of Lexington; and Edith (Edie) Hazel Nickell Miller and her husband Kenneth of Mt. Sterling; five grandchildren, Stephen Dexter Miller, Amy Nicole Brooks, John Thomas Miller, Benjamin Reed Brooks and Alexandra (Alex) Marie Miller and one great grandchild, Madison (Madi) Renee Giles, three sisters, Virginia Canter Montgomery and her husband, Vernon of Garrard Co.; Marjorie Canter Carter and her husband, Ray Walden and Mary Belle Canter Montgomery and her husband, Harry all of Jessamine Co. and a brother, A.G. Canter and his wife, Ida Ruth of Jessamine Co and a sister in law Faye Canter of Lexington, numerous nieces and nephews and a special friend Joyce Cassity. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Dorothy Lee Canter and Mildred Louise Vickers and a brother, Edmond Horace Canter. Funeral services will be 1:00PM, Saturday, March 29, 2008 at Betts & West Funeral Home with Rev. Marvin Lagel and Rev. Mike Agnew officiating. Bearers will be Earl Ingram, Jake Drug, Larry Lewis, Howard Downing, Neal Cassity, Ronald Dale Shearer and Clay Corman. Honorary bearers will be Donny Goodlett, Dwayne Stinnett and men of the Mt. Beulah United Methodist Church. Burial will be in the Maple Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be 4-8 PM, Thursday and 4-8 PM, Friday at the funeral home. Contributions are suggested to Mt.
