Rebecca Perry Despain

November 10, 1926 — September 5, 2009

Rebecca Perry DeSpain, 82, widow of Clell DeSpain, of Lone Oak Drive, passed away Saturday, September 5, 2009 after several months of illness. She was a native of Lexington, daughter of the late David Penn Perry and Georgia Frances Lyon Perry. She graduated from the University of KY in1948. Rebecca enjoyed cooking and attended La Verenne Culinary Academy in Paris, France and The German Wine Academy. She was an active member of St. Luke Catholic Church, participating in the Fiat Bible Study, the Over Fifties Group, and the summer art class where she was studying oil painting. She enjoyed gardening and traveling, especially in Europe. She was a true southern lady, who was known for her gracious generosity. She was loved by all and will be greatly missed. Survivors include her children, Sara Ellen DeSpain of NC, Fran DeSpain (Walter) Viegelmann of NC, Steven (Sharon) DeSpain of Nicholasville and Michael Lewis (Renee) DeSpain of AL, grandchildren, Sara Abshear Bishop, Jennifer DeSpain (Todd) Wharton, Nathanael DeSpain Brothers, Sophia Frances Brothers, Eleanor Marshall Brothers, Anna Frances DeSpain and John Michael DeSpain. Great granddaughters: Bailey Elizabeth Bishop and soon to be, baby girl, Wharton. Services will be held 11:00am Wednesday September 9, 2009 at St. Luke Catholic Church, Nicholasville with Father William C. Bush officiating. Burial will follow at Camp Nelson National Cemetery. A reception will be held following the services. Donations are suggested to St. Luke Catholic Church, Christian Appalachian Project or Hospice of the Bluegrass.
