Nicole Marx Morton

Nicole Marx Morton, 33, died on Tuesday, October 25, 2022, in Lexington, KY. She was born on October 5, 1989, in Tallahassee, FL. Nicole moved to Lexington with her family during elementary school, and then to Nicholasville. As a teenager she loved horses and was adept at riding and caring for them on the family farm. She graduated from East Jessamine High School in 2008, where she played basketball and was in the band. Nicole attended Asbury College briefly on a partial basketball scholarship. She joined the United States Army in 2009 and was deployed to Afghanistan and then El Paso, TX, where she served as an Ammunition Specialist. She received the Afghanistan Campaign Medal with Campaign Star, the National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, and NATO Medal.


She leaves behind three children; Luke Dean, 14, Jenna Marx, 10, and Henry “CJ” Morton, 7. Nicole suffered from addiction during much of the last decade of her life, and even during her most difficult times she considered her children to be her greatest accomplishments.


Nicole is also survived by her husband, Henry Calvin Morton III; her father, James Marx; her siblings, Andrew, Simone and Celine Marx; her maternal grandmother, Barbara Robertson; a niece, Nora, several aunts; Theresa Robertson (Michael), Diana Marx Zellner (Jürgen), Ellen Marx Best (Steve), and Christine Marx Morshedi (Mike); as well as cousins on both sides of the family. She was preceded in death by her mother, Yvonne Robertson Marx, maternal grandfather, James Robertson, and paternal grandparents Kathleen “Kay” and Melvin Marx. She will be missed by many.


Visitation will be from 11 am - 1 pm with a service at 1 pm on Friday, November 4th, 2022, at Betts & West Funeral Home, followed by graveside services with Military Honors at Camp Nelson National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are suggested to go to the Wounded Warrior Project. Betts & West is honored to serve Nicole's family in their time of need.
