Girten, Murrel Lawrence “Larry” April 14, 1948-October 18, 2017

Larry Girten passed away Wednesday October 18, 2017 in Lexington, KY. He is survived by his wife Lynda Gates, his sister Charleen Kempf (Girten), her son Karl Kempf (Krystal), his twin brother Charles Louis Girten “Louie” (Sharon) their three children Kristin Girten, Kyle Girten (Tamany) and Heather Jones (Greg), two daughters Stacie Chandler (Sean) and Julie Bass (Ron), and five grandchildren Jessica, Garrett and Zachary (Chandler) and Jenna and Kaitlyn (Bass). Larry was a graduate of De Sales High School in Louisville, and Eastern Kentucky University, he worked for Commonwealth Life and later retired from Aegon. He enjoyed reminiscing about his summers spent on his uncles’ farms surrounded by his cousins and all of the great meals his aunts prepared. In retirement he spent his time working around the house and yard and enjoying endless card games. He enjoyed gardening and trying new adventures, such as raising rabbits and traveling historic places with his wife. On the weekends, he and Lynda would browse antique shops and flea markets looking for special treasures. Larry really enjoyed making new friends in the neighborhood and around the poker table and had the gift of bringing laughter to the conversation. Most of all, Larry enjoyed his daily phone calls with his brother where they talked about the old days, their grandchildren, and politics.
Larry was preceded in death by his father Murrel Joseph Girten and his mother Mary Magdalene Girten (Skees) and his sister Barbara Osborne (Girten).
Per his request, he will be cremated and no services will be held. The family expresses sincere thanks for your prayers, phone calls and visits.
