Monte Ray Carpenter

Monte Ray Carpenter, 83, widower of Sondra Gayle Short Carpenter, died Sunday, January 30, 2022, at his home in Nicholasville. On October 9, 1938, he was born to the late Enoch Arden and Rosa Lee Robinson Carpenter. He was the former owner of Carpenter Dish Barn and a long-time coach for Little League Football and was an inductee of the Jessamine County Youth Sports Hall of Fame, and served in the Armed Forces in the United States Marine Corps. He was also a respected horse puller for over 50 years and a Bluegrass Horse Pulling Association member. He is survived by three children, Danny (Lycia) Carpenter, Teresa (Paul) Floyd, Tina (Glenn) Miller, a sister, Minerva Jo Griffith, and her daughter, Debbie Owen. Survivors also include ten grandchildren, Travis (Hannah) Carpenter, Monica (Troy) Sallee, Eric (Kate) Carpenter, Jonathan and Jason Floyd, Kristina (Austin) Murphy, Gem Miller, William Miller, Roxanne Miller, and Breanna Miller, as well as eight great-grandchildren, Abigail Carpenter, Landon Carpenter, Trenton Sallee, Collin Sallee, Abel Ray Carpenter, Matthew Miller-Murphy, Margaret Murphy, and McKinley Sallee. Services will be 10:00 AM, Saturday, February 5, 2022, at Betts & West Funeral Home, with Brother Bill Bales officiating. Burial will follow at Bluegrass Memorial Gardens. Casket bearers will be Jonathan Floyd, Jason Floyd, Travis Carpenter, Eric Carpenter, Gem Miller, Troy Sallee, and Austin Murphy. Honorary bearers will be Mark Short, Lyn Peel, James, Barry, and Bob Humphrey. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Friday, February 4, 2022, from 5:00 to 8:00 PM.
