Mattie B. Brown Vanwinkle

Mattie B. Brown Vanwinkle, 88, formally of Monticello, died February 20, 2009. She was born April 3, 1920 in Liberty, KY to the late Oscar Sherman and Ruth B. Games Brown. Mattie was a homemaker and sewing machine operator. Survivors are her children, Selbert Smedley, Betty Collins, Valis Smedley, Linda Jenkins, Ruth Fenson and Patrica Justus, a special grandson, Allen Hale, many other grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren, three sisters, 2 brothers and other family members. She was also preceded in death by a son Jerry Smedley. Services will be 10:00 am Tuesday at Betts & West Funeral Home with Bro. Michael Smeldey and Bro. David Frost officiating. Burial and graveside services will be 2:00 pm Tuesday in Caney Fork Cemetery in Liberty. Visitation will be from 5:00-8:00 pm Monday at the funeral home. Bearers will be David Brown, Mark Shell, Jody Dunn, James and Joe Hurt and Adam Cobb.
