Marlene Peyton

July 16, 1931 — May 17, 2022

Marlene Peyton, 90, passed away on May 17, 2022, at the UK Medical Center. Marlene was a longtime resident of Lexington. She was the third of five children of Ellis and Nancy (Gibson) Meade and was born in Letcher County (Neon), Kentucky.
Marlene moved to Lexington to be close to family in the early 1960's. While working in the lab for St. Joseph's Hospital, she met her future husband, Bill Peyton. The couple married on June 22, 1968, and enjoyed a happy life together until Bill's passing in 2002.
When Marlene retired after more than 30 years at St. Joseph's, she lovingly cared for her mother in her home, volunteered for Porter Memorial Baptist Church, and delighted in time with family and friends. Marlene enjoyed reading, cooking, animals, and UK basketball and football.
Marlene is survived by her brother, Fred (Sue) Meade of Lexington; her niece Susan (Eric) Bayes of Lexington; her niece Nancy (Russ) Little of Flower Mound, TX; and niece Teresa Willoughby of Richmond. Marlene was preceded in death by her husband, Bill, her parents, and two brothers, N. Mitchell Meade and Ray Meade, and one sister, Lorraine Harrison.
Marlene's visitation will be at the Betts and West Funeral Home in Nicholasville on Tuesday, May 31, at 4:00 pm for family and from 5 to 7:00 pm for all. The service will be held in the same location on Wednesday, June 1 at 2:00 pm and will be officiated by Rev. Bill Crawford. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to: StopAfib.org; American Heart Association (www.heart.org); or American Diabetes Association (diabetes.org).
