Marjorie Bedell Whitaker

Nicholasville-Mrs. Marjorie Bedell Whitaker, 90, widow of Lonnie L. Whitaker, died Tuesday, March 31, 2009 surrounded by family at her home after a brief illness. She was born July 25, 1918 in Bay Shore, New York, the daughter of the late Joseph H. and Mabel L. Wright Bedell. Mrs. Whitaker was a graduate of Long Island University and Brown-s Business College. She was employed as Senior Claims Examiner for the Unemployment Insurance Division of the New York State Department of Labor, Albany, New York, until retiring in 1979 and relocating to Nicholasville, KY with her husband. Majorie was a charter member of Calvary Baptist Church, Bay Shore, New York and was active serving as clerk, assistant treasurer, Sunday School teacher and member of the Building Committee. Her interest in church activities continued at Calvary Baptist Church, Nicholasville, where she served as clerk and assistant treasurer for several years before it merged with Lighthouse Baptist Church. Mrs. Whitaker is survived by her cousin, Kathrynne N. Bedell-Bay Shore, New York, a stepson Darrell D. Whitaker-Salyerville, a stepdaughter, Bonnie Jean Stone-Tecumseh, Michigan, six step grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by a stepdaughter, Mrs. Avanell Arnett. Services will be 1:00 pm Thursday at Betts & West Funeral Home with Rev. Dan Barnes officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Grass Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Wednesday form 2:00 until 9:00 pm at the funeral home. Bearers will be Brett and Brian Boyle, Tanner and Tyler Aldridge, Darrell Shane Whitaker and Randy Arnett.
