Lydia H. Brumfield

Lydia H. Brumfield, 93, passed away Monday December 5, 2011. Mrs. Brumfield was the widow of William A. Brumfield and the daughter of the late Benjamin and Lillian Harp. She began her career as a hairstylist at the Hernando Building in Lexington, as her clientele grew she also worked at the Pink Puff Beauty Shop, Esplanade Beauty Salon, Central Beauty Shop and retired from Chevy Chase Beauty Shop in 1986. She was a former member of the Cosmetology Board, was a former member of the Lexington Art League and a member of Woodland Christian Church. She delighted in her family, growing flowers, artistic (still life) painting and the companionship of her dogs and cats. Lydia was a warm, loving and caring lady who always put others before herself. She was a devoted wife and mother and will be greatly missed. Survivors include her daughter, Linda Brumfield, two sisters, Marietta Wells of Nicholasville and Jeanne Bryant of Berea, one brother, Ben Harp of Wilmore, several nieces nephews, great nieces and great nephews. She was preceded in death by brothers, Robert L. Harp and James Curwood Harp. Services will be 2:00pm Thursday at Betts & West Funeral Home with Rev. Craig Yates officiating. Burial will follow in the Maple Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6-8pm Wednesday. Donations are suggested to the Arthritis Foundation or the Lexington Humane Society.
