James William Black

December 19, 1942 — February 10, 2024

James William “Bill” Black, 81, husband of Betty Black, passed away on Saturday, February 10, 2024, at Baptist Health Lexington. He was born on December 19, 1942, in Covington, Kentucky, to Hugh James Black and Anna Mae Bullock Black.  Bill was a member at Edgewood Baptist Church, co-owner of Printer’s Ink in Nicholasville, Kentucky, and a veteran of the United States Army.  In addition to his wife, Betty, he is survived by a daughter, Julie Anne (Aaron) Dowdell of Versailles, KY, and a son, David Manning (Stephanie) Black of Versailles, KY and chosen daughter Shannon (Tim) Frasure of Stamping Ground, KY; six grandchildren, William Jennings Dowdell, Samuel David Dowdell, Bennett James Dowdell, Amelia McAllister Black, and Norah Manning Black and Morgan Frasure; sister Anna (Dean) Keys; special nephews, Jeffery “Monkey Jeff” Keys and Mark “Bird Man” (Gina) Keys; and special friends Tony Ackerman and Pastor Steve Gray. Bill was preceded in death by his parents and sister Joyce Black. Funeral services will be at 1:00 PM, Friday, February 16, 2024, at Edgewood Baptist Church, with Pastor Steve Gray officiating. A visitation will be held from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM on Thursday, February 15, 2024, at the church. Masonic services will be conducted at 7:00 PM. A burial will follow in Camp Nelson National Cemetery with full military honors. Pallbearers will be Wayne Ackerman, Marty Cordier, Tim Frasure, Jeff Keys, Mark Keys, Jim Miller. Honorary pallbearers are Gage White and Zane White. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Edgewood Baptist Church Pavilion Building Fund, 717 South Main Street, Nicholasville, KY 40356.  Betts & West Funeral Home is honored to serve Bill and his family in their time of need.
