James R. "Bob" Hughes

December 29, 1932 — October 12, 2022

James R. (Bob) Hughes, 89, passed away on Wednesday, October 12th, at his home on Rainbow Drive in Nicholasville. He was born on December 29, 1932, to the late Mabel Lucille Drake and J. Robert Hughes in Bloomfield, Kentucky. Bob was a Registered Pharmacist and entrepreneur. He owned and operated 3 independent Drug Stores for 35 years, including Nicholasville Drug Store for 23 years in Nicholasville. He was a Tech Sergeant in the U.S. Army during the Korean War from 1952-1955. Bob was an active member and Deacon at Edgewood Baptist Church. He loved singing, traveling, fishing, reading, always learning new things, spending time with his family and planning adventurous family vacations.


Bob is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Lela, and their four children: Robbie, Ricky, Stephen and Kristi Hughes and Freddy Pacheco.


Throughout his life, Bob strived to serve God and others in all he did. His boisterous laugh and wonderful sense of humor brightened many a soul.


Services will be held at 2:00pm on Saturday, October 15th at Betts & West Funeral Home with Pastor Steve Gray officiating. Visitation will be from 1pm until time of service on Saturday, October 15th at the funeral home.
