Hiram Newton Smith

April 24, 1922 — February 2, 2009

Hiram Newton Smith, 86, husband of 68 years Virginia Durbin Smith, of Lauren Drive, died February 2, 2008 at his home. He was the former owner and mechanic of Phillips 66 service station, was a member of the American Legion Boyle Post 46, a life member of VFW Post 3634 in Danville, member of Lighthouse Baptist Church and was a Veteran of the U.S. Army serving during WWII. Additional survivors include two daughters, Virginia -Ginny- Hippe and her husband Lynn of Lexington and Linda Lawson and her husband Eddie of Danville, six grandchildren, Shonie Brotherton-Lexington, Travis Lee-Lexington, Chuck Lawson-Lawrenceburg, Rick Lawson-Garrard Co., James and Jason Hippe, both of TN, nine great grandchildren, three great great grandchildren, two sisters, Lyda Rhodus-Lexington and Agnus (Elmer) Barnes-Nicholasville, a brother Mack Smith-Lexington. He was preceded in death by two sons, Leonard and Ronald -Gayle- Smith. Services will be 11:30am Thursday, February 5, 2009 at Betts & West Funeral Home with Rev. Dan Barnes, Pastor James Marshall and Rev. Phillip Peterson officiating. Burial will follow in Camp Nelson National Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday, February 4, 2009 from 5-8pm. Bearers will be Shonie Brotherton, Tyler Lawson, Brian Young, Harold Taylor, Robert Taylor and Bill Rhodus. Honorary bearers will be Chuck Lawson, Rick Lawson, Travis Lee, Ed David Smith and Whity Young. Military rites will be performed by American Legion, Boyle Post 46. Donations are suggested to the American Legion, Boyle Post 46.

Camp Nelson National Cemetery
