Gene Mckinney

September 22, 1952 — January 12, 2021

Gene Mckinney, devoted husband of Anna Gilbert Mckinney, went home to be with our Lord on Tuesday, January 12, 2021 in Lexington, Kentucky. Gene was born on September 22,1952 in Columbus, Indiana, but lived most of his life in Plant City, Florida. He worked as a Music Minister for over 40 years, serving in several churches in Florida and for the last 10 years in Nicholasville, Kentucky. Gene also worked as Transportation Manager at Wesley Village Retirement Community in Wilmore, Kentucky.

Gene was completely devoted to his family and his service to the Lord. He was a Deacon of Edgewood Baptist Church, sang in the choir and was a part of the church’s gospel quartet, Brother’s Edge. He loved sports, especially Kentucky college football and basketball and he never missed a chance to play golf with his friends. One of his greatest joys was taking trips to Georgia with his son, Joshua, to go fishing with his brother.

Gene was a devoted husband, a loving father, a faithful servant of God and a good friend to many. He will be greatly missed.

Gene is survived by his wife, Anna, his son, Joshua Derek Mckinney, his step-son Devon Wayne Brewster and his step-daughter Jessica Brianne Brewster, one brother Dean (Brenda) Mckinney and one sister, Tina (Todd) Belanger. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harvey and Letha Scott Mckinney, a brother John Richard Mckinney and an infant sister Eva Deloris Mckinney.

There will be a Memorial Service on Tuesday, January 19 at 5:00pm at Edgewood Baptist Church in Nicholasville, Kentucky. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the music or youth ministries of Edgewood Baptist Church, 717 S. Main St. Nicholasville, Kentucky 40356. Phone 859-885-6211.
