Florence Benge Short Ethington

Florence Benge Short Ethington 94, widow of Everett Cecil Ethington, died Thursday, December 16, 2010. She was born June 6, 1916 in Athens to the late Robert Link and Annette Eades. She was valedictorian of her graduating class of 1934 at Athens High School. Florence was a resident of Jessamine County for over 65 years; was a long standing member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church and an avid gardener. She was beloved by her family, friends and community and will be dearly missed. Family members are four daughters, Betty (Don) Adams of Lexington, Irene Moss, widow of Ray Moss, Jane (Arby) Johns, both of Nicholasville, Mary Kaye (Joe) Moore of Lexington, ten grandchildren, Angela (Walt) Hornbeck of Butler, Dale Adams of Wilmore, Donald Clark Adams, who is deceased, Cecil Moss of Nicholasville, Amy (Bobby) Morgan of Lancaster, Sara Moss of OH, Donald Johns of Nicholasville, Ronald (Leslie) Johns of MD, Patrick and Scott Moore of Lexington, eleven great grandchildren, Kenton, Grant and Mason Hornbeck of Butler, Cassity (Mike) Newland, Laura Cobb and Celia (Ronnie) Hammond of Nicholasville, Michael Moss of CA, Bradley Johns, Suzanne (Steve) Watts, John (Kristi) Moore all of MD and Alex Morgan of Lancaster, nine great great grandchildren, Victoria Miller of Lancaster, Kelci and Preslee Newland, Hunter Kidwell and Emmee Hammond all of Nicholasville, Arianna Moss of CA, Travis Meadors, John and Carly Moore all of MD, a sister, Jane Parker, widow of Asa Parker, a brother, Cecil -Bill- (Ann) Short, both of Lexington, a special niece, Cindy Parker and a sister in law, Mildred Short, Both of Lexington. She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Olive -Bink- McCray and Margaret Monson and three brothers, Robert, Carl and Jim Short. Services will be 11:00 am Monday at Betts & West Funeral Home with Rev. Dewayne Brewer and Rev. Steve Scholar officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Grass Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Sunday from 1:00 pm until 3:00 pm and 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm at the funeral home. Bearers will be Cecil Moss, Ronald and Donald Johns, Dale Adams, Patrick and Scott Moore. Special friends as honorary bearers will be, Sarah Elliott, Rosie Huddleston, Betty Burns, all the staff and residence of Council Oaks and the staff at Richmond Place.
