Dr. Richard G. Steinhauser, 96, went home to be with the Lord on January 15, 2011. Dr. Steinhauser served as professor at Asbury University from 1959 - 1979. Prior to his retirement, he was Chairman of the Education Department. He was born April 2, 1914, in East St. Louis, Illinois to the late Eugene Steinhauser and Emma Ulhorn Cox. He attended Pathway Church and was a Army Veteran. He is survived by two children, Karen Steinhauser (Joe) Webster of Bethesda, Maryland, Dr. Richard P. (Karen) Steinhauser of Richmond, two grandchildren, Richard P. (Amanda) Steinhauser II and Ashley (Jeremy) Collins, of Lexington, three step grandchildren, Jason, Elijah and Jessica Sparks, of Richmond, four great great grandchildren and other family members. He was preceded in death by his wife, Violet Hecht Steinhauser. A Celebration of Life Service will be 12:30 pm Wednesday at Betts & West Funeral Home with Dr. Mike Currans and Rev. Bob Baldridge officiating. Burial will follow in Camp Nelson National Cemetery. A time of gathering and fellowship will begin at 11:00 am Wednesday until time of service.
