Dr. Dale Edward Dunkelberger

Dale Edward Dunkelberger, 92, died November 9, 2013. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Edith Bullock Dunkelberger, and three daughters, Ruth Basney, Lowell, MI; Janet Dixon, Hook, Hampshire, England; and Lois Brant, Lexington, KY.

Also surviving are five grandchildren, Claire (Clayton) Ramsey, Lauren Basney, Ross Dixon,Joanna Dixon, and Nathan (Amanda) Brant; and three great grandchildren, Adelynn Brant, Joshua Ramsey, and Nicholas Ramsey.

Dale was born in Trevorton, PA, to the late Homer and Augusta Kuhn Dunkelberger. He graduated from Trevorton High School in 1939, and Houghton College, Houghton, NY, in 1943. ln December of that year he married Edith May Bullock in Philadelphia PA.

After joining the U.S. Army in 1943, he attended Temple University Medical School, Philadelphia, PA, graduating in 1947. He also served in the U.S. Navy, first in Quantico, VA, and then aboard the USS William Mitchell.

ln 1952 he moved his family to Wilmore, KY, where he established a solo medical practice. Over the next 47 years he delivered 860 babies and cared for them and their families until his retirement in 1989.

A faithful member of the Wilmore Presbyterian Church, he served as Elder and Sunday School teacher for many years. He also served as recording secretary on the board of the Farmers Bank in Nicholasville, KY, for over 40years.

ln 1996 he and his wife moved into one of the first patio homes built in Wesley Village, Wilmore, a decision they never regretted.

Visitation will be Monday, November 18, at 1:30 p.m. in the Wesley Village Community Center, followed by a service of celebration at 4:00 p.m. ln lieu of flowers, a contribution to Wesley Village is suggested.
