Deva Ann Rainwater Bottoms Benedict

July 24, 1943 — November 11, 2022

Deva Ann Rainwater Bottoms Benedict, 79, widow since 1997 to the late Bobby Bottoms, married for 36 years and widow since 2022 to the late Johnnie Benedict, married for 22 years, gained her angel wings and joined her sweet Jesus in Heaven on the morning of November 11, 2022. She left her earthly home, peacefully, surrounded by her family whom she loved so much, to be in the arms of her Lord and Savior. Deva was born in Casey County, Kentucky on July 24, 1943, to the late Ed & Mae Randolph Rainwater. She was raised in a Christian home where God and Family meant everything. Spreading the word of God and Singing the Gospel was her life’s legacy. From her early childhood days and throughout the years, she would be heard singing with her dad, brothers, and sisters and later shared that same joy and love with her precious granddaughter, Samantha. Deva was a member of Bethel Christian Church. She was a retired cafeteria manager of Wilmore Elementary and former manager of the dining hall at Wilmore Camp Meeting. She will be fondly remembered for her love of camping, gardening, canning, and cooking. She was especially known for her pies, rolls, dumplings, and chili. All of her meals were made from scratch and her special ingredient was lots of added love. She was blessed with so much in life and her greatest joys were her children and grandchildren. She is survived by her three daughters, Cindy (Mike) Drury, Lycia (Danny) Carpenter, Bobbie Mae (Jeff) Fryman, three stepchildren, Sandy Ferguson, Kelly (Duane) Kirby, & John Benedict. 12 grandchildren, Scotty True, Jessica (Billy) Zimmerman, Matthew (Kristi) True, Travis (Hannah) Carpenter, Monica (Troy) Sallee, Josh (Rachel) True, Eric (Kate) Carpenter, Samantha Penland, BJ (Becca) Penland, Randi (Austin) Drury, Elizabeth Penland and Robert Penland and 4 step-grandchildren Travis & Trevor Florian, Hunter Mulcahy & Hayden Benedict, 15 great-grandchildren, 4 siblings, Billy Joe (Billie Jean), Ben, Ernie (Lynn) & Kathy Rainwater. She was preceded in death by her precious grandmother, Mommie Randolph, son in laws Bill True and Billy Penland, grandchildren, Jason True and Stevie Penland, sister Deanna (Winfrey) Wesley, sister-in-law Judy Rainwater and an infant sister, Susie Rainwater. Service will be conducted at 11 AM Wednesday, November 16, 2022, at Betts & West Funeral Home with Johnny Davis officiating. Burial will follow in the Bluegrass Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 4-8 PM Tuesday evening at the funeral home.
