China Elizabeth Lawson

China Elizabeth Cruse Lawson, 95, widow of Hugh Samuel Lawson, of Berea, died Sunday November 18, 2007 at Royal Manor Healthcare in Nicholasville. China was born April 26, 1912 in Jackson County to the late James and Rose Ellen Asbury Cruse. She came from a family with ten children, three boys and seven girls. She married Hugh in 1928 and they were married for 74 years. China was a mother and homemaker. She also became and evangelist and preacher. She had great joy holding church and prayer meeting at her Berea home. She also enjoyed a favorite past time of hosting yard sales at her home. China is survived by her six children, Clark (Lou) Lawson, Mary (Charles) Burge, Bettie Carter, Nora Lee Whalen, Samuel (Linda) Lawson and Mike Lawson, seventeen grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Services will be Wednesday at 10:30 AM at Betts & West Funeral Home with Rev. Timothy Nicholson officiating. Burial to follow in Bluegrass Memorial Gardens. Bearers will be Johnny Burge, David Carter, Roy Blevins, Anthony Lawson, David Brown and Duane Lawson. Honorary Bearers will be Matt Blevins, Ken Adkins and Stacy Adkins.
