Charles E Davis

Charles E. Davis, age 81, of Lehigh Acres, passed away December 25, 2020 in Lehigh Acres.

He was born July 15, 1939 in Hubble, KY, to the late James Robert and the late Nellie Iris (Miracle) Davis. Charles had been in failing health within the last few years. He was born and raised in the heart of Kentucky. When he was 17 years old he enlisted in the Army. He completed basic training at Fort Chaffee, AK in 1956. He then completed infantry and jump school at Fort Bragg, NC. He was a Veteran of the Vietnam War, where he completed two tours. He was ranked as a Staff Sergeant E-6 specializing in explosives as a Combat Engineer and Combat Demolition Specialist. He was a Green Beret in the 10th Special Forces Group (Bad Tolz, Germany) as well as serving in the 11th Airborne Division, 82nd Airborne Division and the 173rd Airborne Brigade. During his career he served in Okinawa, Vietnam, Germany and the Dominican Replublic. In 1965 he was awarded the Bronze Star with a Varol Device for Heroism in Ground Combat. During his military career he also recieved the Combat Infantryman’s Badge.
As well as his Master Parachutist Wings and had 236 jumps. He was Trooper of the Month in February (Year Unknown) for the entire 82nd Airborne Division. In total he served 12 years, 4 months and 17 days. In April of 1976 Charles married Susan Davis in Pikeville, KY. Even though they divorced in 2003, Charles and Susan remained very close friend’s. Charles lived in Lee County, FL since 1979. Except for a few years in the early 2000’s when he would spread his wings; he lived in North Carolina and Kentucky. After he was honorably discharged from the Army he worked as a carpenter and helped build many of the buildings in Fort Myers, FL; until he retired in the 1980’s. Once he was retired he would take his family on vacations which consitated of visiting any historical and national momunments or parks. One of the most memorable summer vacations was to Washington D.C. in the early 1990’s. He loved history and loved to travel. But most of all he loved his children and espically his grandchildren.

Services will be 1:30 PM, Friday, January 8, 2021 at Camp Nelson National Cemetery.
Visitation 11AM until 1:00 PM, Friday at Betts & West Funeral Home.
