After bravely fighting cancer and lung disease for many years, Carl Silvey died on March 25, 2024. He was born on October 25, 1957, in Florissant, MO, to his late parents, Dannie and Theo Silvey.
Carl took pride in being a hard worker. Carl learned the ropes of maintenance from his dad when he was young. He received his electrical training at Russellville High Vocational School and specialized refrigeration training during his career. He became an expert at repairing almost anything. He started his career at Colburn Vending Company in Russellville, KY, moving to Lexington in 1981 to work at Cardinal Vending Company. From there, he moved into general maintenance for the University of Kentucky, Physical Plant. In August of 1988, he began working for the Webb Brothers, ending his career as the Director of Engineering at Lexington Downtown Hilton.
Carl was known as someone who could fix almost anything. He was always there for his friends and family, ready to repair whatever was giving them trouble. Even when cancer made things tough for him physically, he continued to help, using FaceTime to guide people through repairs. That's just the kind of person he was – always looking out for others.
Carl liked spending time outdoors, particularly his love for hunting and fishing alongside his family and friends. He enjoyed small game and deer hunting. He spent years training Brittany Spaniels and Beagles, and had many dogs as pets throughout his life.
Carl's heart belonged to bass fishing. He was a former member of the Jessamine County Bass Club and participated in tournaments at Herrington Lake. Carl always made time for what mattered most – his family. Many weekends were spent on the lake with his son fishing.
In addition to his love for the outdoors, Carl was a supporter of his children's athletic events. Whether it was a soccer match or basketball game, he was always there, cheering them on with pride and enthusiasm.
Carl leaves behind his wife of 47 years, Carol. Also surviving are his children and their spouses, John (Kristin), Laura (Tiffany), and his grandson, Christian. He is also survived by his brother, Rodney (Sandra), sister, Denise, brother in law David (Sarah) White, sister in law Sylvia White, many nieces and nephews, as well as great-nieces and great-nephews.
He is preceded in death by his brothers, Gary and Tommy.
A celebration of Carl’s life will be held on Thursday, March 28, 2024, 5:30 PM at Nicholasville Christian Church, 508A North Main Street, Nicholasville, KY. Visitation with the family will begin at 4:00 PM at the church.
Carl never met an animal he didn’t love or a person he wouldn’t help. He was known for his patience and kindness to all.
This obituary has been lovingly submitted by Carl’s family. Betts & West is honored to serve the Silvey family in their time of need. An online guestbook is available at www.BettsAndWestFuneralHome.com
