Billy Clay Johns

January 28, 1935 — December 12, 2009

Nicholasville-Billy Clay Johns, 74, husband of Sonora Alice Johns, of Linden Lane, died Saturday December 12, 2009 after a brief illness. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, a member of American Legion Post 8 and was retired as a manager from IBM. Billy-s passions were his family first, his wife, children, grand and great grandchildren, golfing with his friends and photography. He was born January 28, 1935 in Wilmore, son of the late Edward and Mabel Johns. Additional survivors include two children, Angela (Robert) McBride and Jeffrey (Sheli) Johns grandchildren Cody (Kara) McBride, Nicholas McBride, Lauren and Emily Johns, great grandchildren, Kailey and Kenneth Clay McBride, a sister, Joretta (David) Grow, three brothers, Kenneth (Minnie) Johns, Sunny (Betty) Johns, and Arby (Jane) Johns and a special cousin, Lamar Tudor. He was preceded in death by a sister Verdenia Johns Johnson. Services will be 11:00 am Thursday at Betts & West Funeral Home with Chaplin Jim Harrison. Burial will follow in Camp Nelson National Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-8 pm Wednesday. Bearers will be Cody and Nick McBride, Lamar Tudor, Danny Newton, Richard Feck and Shawn Hall. Honorary bearers will be Harold Spurlock, Gary Giles, Ron King, Lou Giltner, Moe Baldwin, Kelly Wier, Charlie Sharp, Paul Stutsman, Terry Hagan, Watson Caudill and members of the Post 8 Honor Guard.
