Abigail "Abby" Marie Dobie

October 24, 1984 — August 1, 2023

Abigail “Abby” Marie Dobie died in a tragic auto accident on August 1, 2023. She was born in Jellico, Tennessee on October 24, 1984 to Timothy and Carol Crawford. Abby’s family was very involved in ministry in Kentucky and Africa, and Abby also ministered in missionary trips to Kenya, China and Colombia, South America. Abby was a big sister to Hannah whom she supported in many ways, even into adulthood.

Abby graduated from Bell County High School and received her undergraduate and master’s degrees from Asbury College (now Asbury University). She met the love of her life, Michael Dobie, at Asbury and they were married two weeks after earning their bachelor’s degrees. Abby began her high school English teaching career at Bryan Station High School in Lexington, and after one year she began teaching at West Jessamine High School in Nicholasville, teaching there for 16 years. She was honored to be chosen West Jessamine High School Teacher of the Year in 2020. She was loved and respected by her peers and students alike.

Abby and Mike have been part of the church family at Wilmore Free Methodist Church for seven years where Abby volunteered in various areas including 4th grade Sunday School teacher, a worker each year at VBS, and being part of the Café Berea Sunday School class.

In 2014 Abby and Mike welcomed Eleanor Rylee Dobie into their home, and finalized her adoption in 2015. In 2020 they welcomed Travis and Jaiden into their home, and less than two months ago their adoption was finalized in a joyful celebration so they officially became Travis Ronald Allen Fryeler Dobie and Jaiden Timothy Thomas Fryeler Dobie.

Abby leaves behind her husband, Michael; children, Travis (10), Eleanor (9) and Jaiden (9); parents Timothy Crawford (Angela) and Carol Txipama (Alex); sister Hannah Clark (Clay); maternal grandmother, Roselyn DeWitt; uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins as well as her in-laws, Ron and Julie Dobie.
